ENDOMETRIOSIS NUTRITION COUNSELING
Medical Nutrition Therapy for Endometriosis
If you’re living with endometriosis, you already know that pain, bloating, fatigue, and digestive symptoms can be extremely challenging. There is so much conflicting nutrition information out there, but what is best for you? As a registered dietitian specializing in women’s health, I offer personalized, evidence-based nutrition counseling for endometriosis, aimed at reducing symptoms, supporting your hormones, and helping you feel your best.
Why Nutrition Matters for Endometriosis
Endometriosis is an inflammatory condition, and diet plays a role in how your body experiences and manages that inflammation. Research suggests that nutrition may influence:
- Inflammation levels and pelvic pain severity
- Estrogen metabolism and hormone levels
- Gastrointestinal symptoms like bloating, constipation, or diarrhea often experienced with endometriosis
- Energy levels and fatigue
Diet and lifestyle modification is one part of a comprehensive endometriosis management plan. Adding a dietitian to you care team who understands the condition can make a difference in how you feel day to day. With your permission, I work in collaboration with your existing medical team, ensuring continuity of care.
How I Can Help
I offer individualized nutrition counseling for endometriosis aimed at symptom improvement and long-term health. All recommendations take into account your health history, diet history, and lifestyle to make sure they are sustainable and realistic.
What We May Work On Together:
- Anti-inflammatory nutrition strategies. Inflammation is characteristic of endometriosis but diet changes can help reduce inflammation, thereby lessening symptoms.
- GI health support, including fiber intake and addressing bothersome GI symptoms
- Blood sugar and hormone-supportive eating patterns
- Nutrition around surgery or treatment, including pre- and post-operative nutrition if you’re undergoing excision surgery
- Sustainable, non-restrictive eating habits as our goal is changes you’re able to maintain and benefit from long-term.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Why should I work with a registered dietitian for endometriosis? There is so much information online and it can be overwhelming to try and sort out what’s best for you. As a registered dietitian, my aim is to translate nutrition research into actionable recommendations that account for your lifestyle, medical history, preferences, and goals.
- Is there a specific “endometriosis diet”? There’s no single diet proven to treat endometriosis. However, certain eating patterns aimed at reducing inflammation and supporting hormone regulation can help improve symptoms. Nutrition counseling focuses on finding what works for your body rather than following a generic “diet.”
- Do I have to cut out gluten and dairy? Not necessarily. Most women with endometriosis can tolerate gluten and dairy without issue. Some women with endometriosis do find symptom relief from reducing or eliminating certain foods. We’ll look at your specific symptoms and history before making any recommendations. Any elimination is done intentionally and temporarily to evaluate the best course moving forward.
- Do you accept insurance? Yes! I am in network with most commercial insurance plans. Most plans cover nutrition counseling in full as a preventive service.
- Do you offer virtual appointments? I offer nutrition counseling via telehealth across New York State and am based in Rochester, NY.
